You feel that? That little chill in the air. The days are getting shorter, the leaves are starting to change, and spooky season is almost here. And, as a matter of fact, it just happens to be my favorite time of year: spooky season in North Carolina!
One of my favorite ways to celebrate as the leaves begin to fall and the air gets a little crisper is with a good old-fashioned Halloween fright. From terrifying haunted forests and creepy farms to chilling ghost tours, North Carolina knows how to do Halloween right. In my opinion, these are some of the best haunted attractions near the Raleigh area and throughout North Carolina. Whether you’re looking for heart-pounding scares, a spooky night out with friends, or something a little more family-friendly, there are plenty of haunts worth adding to your fall bucket list.
So grab your bravest friends, embrace the spooky vibes, and get ready to scream! Here are some of my favorite North Carolina haunted attractions to check out this Halloween season.
Kersey Valley SpookyWoods
If you think you have seen scary, think again. Kersey Valley Spooky Woods in Archdale, North Carolina, is one of those Halloween attractions that lives up to the hype. This one is a favorite of mine. We go every year. What makes Spooky Woods stand out is just how big the experience is. What started as a teenage dare in a dark farmhouse back in 1985 has grown into one of North Carolina’s most well-known haunted attractions, covering more than 85 acres and featuring over 180 professional scare actors.

And there is a lot to see. The attraction combines detailed sets, creepy storylines, haunted trails, and plenty of surprises that make you forget you are walking through a Halloween attraction in the first place. Just when you think you know what is coming next, something usually proves you wrong. If you are looking for that classic haunted house experience with a little bit of everything, Kersey Valley Spooky Woods definitely deserves a spot on your Halloween list. Haunted Forest Panic Point
Located in the Raleigh area, Haunted Forest at Panic Point is one of my favorite places to get into the Halloween spirit. We have been a few times, and I really love the whole vibe. There is something about being out in the woods at night that makes the scares feel that much more real.
Panic Point has five attractions with more than 40 unique scenes, so there is plenty to experience in one night. Each attraction has its own feel, and you never really know what is coming next. Between the dark woods, creepy scenes, and plenty of unexpected scares, it is an easy choice for a fun Halloween night out. I would definitely recommend going with a group of friends and seeing who makes it through without screaming. Although from my experience, there is always at least one person who gets scared first. Haunted Forest at Panic Point opens September 19, 2026, so if you love Halloween as much as I do, this is one to add to your list.

Woods of Terror
This one was iconic. Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, Woods of Terror is definitely worth the drive if you are serious about spooky season. And if the name does not already give it away, this is not exactly the place to test your bravery. With 18 different haunted attractions, there is a lot to see and experience. You will make your way through creepy trails, elaborate scenes, and plenty of terrifying characters who seem to appear when you least expect them.
The whole place is huge, so plan to spend a good amount of time exploring. Walking through the woods at night is already a little unsettling. Add in some seriously creepy sets, live actors, and a few unexpected scares, and you have the recipe for a very memorable Halloween night. Woods of Terror opens September 11, 2026. If you are making the drive to Greensboro, I would definitely recommend going for the All-Access Pass. There is so much to experience, and if you are going to make the trip, you might as well go all in. We did this last time, and it’s the best bang for your buck!

Haunted Harvest
Opening in October 2026, this is one I have not had the chance to experience yet, but I have heard some really good things about it. Haunted Harvest, located in Lillington, North Carolina, is a great option if you are looking for a classic haunted trail experience with plenty of scares along the way. The trail takes you into the darkness with creepy scenes, live actors, and surprises that keep you guessing about what is coming next.
What I like about the idea of Haunted Harvest is that it is not just about walking from one scare to the next. The characters and storyline help make the whole trail feel like you have stepped into a different world for the night. And honestly, that is what I want from a good haunt. If you are in the mood for a spooky fall night and want to see if you can make it through the trail without jumping out of your skin, Haunted Harvest is one to add to your Halloween list. I know I will be trying to check it out for myself this season.

U.S. Ghost Adventures: Raleigh Ghost Tour
Not every Halloween scare needs a chainsaw or someone jumping out of the woods. Sometimes, the creepiest stories are the ones that might actually be true. As someone who loves all things ghostly and paranormal, the U.S. Ghost Adventures Raleigh Ghost Tour was right up my alley. We booked the tour for a Tuesday night date because we wanted to do something a little different, and it ended up being such a fun way to kick off spooky season.
The tour takes you through Raleigh after dark while sharing the city’s darker history, local legends, and stories of the paranormal. There is something about hearing these stories while actually standing in the places where they happened that makes them even more interesting. For me, it was pretty much the perfect spooky night out. No haunted house required, just a little history, a few ghost stories, and plenty of Halloween vibes. They offer tours on multiple days and times of the year, so check out their event site to book.

Clayton Fear Farm
This one is new to me, but it definitely looks like one to add to the list! Clayton Fear Farm is super close to the Raleigh area, making it an easy option for a spooky night out. The farm features several haunted attractions and haunted houses, with new horror elements added each year. So even if you have been before, you never quite know what you are going to get.
Grab your bravest friends and get ready for creepy characters, unexpected scares, and plenty of Halloween fun. Just because you go with a group does not mean you will feel any less scared! Clayton Fear Farm opens October 2, 2026, and is open every Friday and Saturday throughout October.

Granville Haunt Farm Drive-Through
We did this one last year, and it was a lot of fun. If walking through a haunted trail is not really your thing, Granville Haunt Farm offers a fun alternative with its drive-through experience. I have always thought there was something extra fun about being able to enjoy the scares from the comfort of your own car, especially when you can bring the whole family along. Granville Haunt Farm is located about 30 minutes from Raleigh, making it an easy option for a quick Halloween night out. It has more of a family-friendly spooky feel, so it is a good choice if you want some Halloween fun without going all in on the really intense scares.
I have not seen an official opening date announced for the 2026 season just yet, but it is one I would keep an eye on as Halloween gets closer. If you are looking for something a little less terrifying but still want to get out and enjoy the spooky season, this could be a great one to add to your list.

Darkside Haunted Estates
Last but certainly not least is Darkside Haunted Estates, and this is one I have yet to experience but really want to check out this year. Located in Johnston County, Darkside has been creating Halloween scares for more than 40 years, so they definitely know how to do spooky season.
The attraction features a haunted walking trail that stretches for more than a mile, taking you through all kinds of creepy scenes and themed attractions. From the Witch Doctor’s Emporium and Insane Asylum to Clown Town, the Slaughterhouse, the Bundie Hotel, and Rottenkor Cemetery, there is a lot to see along the way. They also build their own special effects for the different scenes, which makes the experience feel even more immersive. And with new attractions being added this year, there should be plenty of surprises waiting for returning visitors.
I have a feeling this is going to be one of the ones I make it to this Halloween season. If you love a good haunted trail and are looking for something intense, Darkside Haunted Estates definitely belongs on your list. The attraction opens September 18th, 2026.

Halloween will always be my favorite holiday, and there is just something extra magical about celebrating it here in North Carolina.
