As someone who loves all things ghostly, paranormal, and a little bit creepy, my fiancé and I recently went on the tour, and it was such a fun way to spend an evening. We were traveling to visit Williamsburg for two days, and we booked the tour for a date night and to kick off the spooky season.
A Guided Tour of Ghosts, Legends, and Williamsburg’s Past
I’ve been to Williamsburg more times than I can count, but you know what I had never done? A ghost tour. So when I got the chance to explore Williamsburg after dark with US Ghost Adventures, I was so excited. Williamsburg is one of those places where history feels like it’s everywhere you look, and with that much history, it only makes sense that a few ghost stories are mixed in.
Our Williamsburg ghost tour took us on a walking journey through the historic heart of the city, where we learned about some of Williamsburg’s most chilling legends, mysterious stories, and supposedly haunted locations. We took the tour on a semi-foggy, moonlit night too, which was even spookier. Our tour guide was a lovely woman named Chris, and she was amazing! She was one of those tour guides you hope for: knowledgeable, energetic, answered all our questions, and made the night even better. She showed us Bruton Parish Church and Jones Cemetery, Merchants Square, George Wythe House, and Peyton Randolph House. We didn’t go into these locations, just outside, but truthfully I don’t think I would have wanted to go into these locations. (I was too scared!)

Why the Tour is Worth It
When we took our tour, we also added the extended tour and an EMF detector, and I highly recommend doing both if you want the full experience. We got to visit three top locations, plus an additional area, which made the tour feel even more immersive. I don’t want to give too much away, but the Peyton Randolph House was easily my favorite. It’s one of the most famously haunted houses in Williamsburg and, truthfully, in America. Walking through it was absolutely chilling.
What I appreciated most, though, was that the tour wasn’t just about ghosts. The stories were woven into the real history of Williamsburg, which made everything so much more interesting. We were walking through places where people actually lived, worked, fell in love, suffered, and died centuries ago, all while hearing the stories and legends of what may still linger there today. A Fun Experience for Everyone
Point blank, a ghost tour should be on your list of must-do things to do when visiting Williamsburg. If you’ve already done the usual Williamsburg itinerary, this is such a fun way to experience the city differently. Which tour to pick? This was our second tour from the company (we did one in Raleigh; you can read here), and I highly recommend, they do a fantastic job.
It’s especially fun for a date night or a night out with friends because you get to explore, hear some seriously creepy stories, and probably spend the rest of the evening debating whether you actually saw something. Just do yourself a favor and pay attention while you’re walking. After this tour, you may never look at Williamsburg quite the same way again.
