Burger Fest at Aw Shucks Farm in Monroe, North Carolina

Burger Fest at Aw Shucks Farm in Monroe, North Carolina

There are so many things coming back to life as the COVID-19 vaccine has arrived and I am for it! Since being fully vaccinated, I have been looking to do more events and festivals to get out of the house. This past weekend, my friend (and co-worker) headed out to Monrow, North Carolina to attend the 2021 Burger Fest. The festival is known as North Carolina’s only festival celebrating the best burgers in the South and was hosted at Aw Shucks Farm located at 3718 Plyler Mill Road in Monroe, NC. The event featured burgers, live music, arts, and craft booths, and fun family activities.

When we got to the event parking was very easy. We arrived around 5:30 pm (so fairly early) since the event started at 5 pm. Checking in was a piece of cake and we chose to explore all the activities during our visit. The farm features some really fun attractions including an animals barn, 40-foot grain bin slide, a wide variety of foods, gem mining, historic train car, hay barrels, human foosball, a pond, a general store, and an old school ice cream shop.

We pretty much hit all of them (not gem-mining) and enjoyed sunshine, kind people, and each other’s company. I can’t stress enough how pleasant it was to just get out of the house and attend an event. It’s funny, something I use to take for granted before (going to a festival) I no longer will again because of the pandemic. Personally, my favorite part about attending the festival and the farm was the 40-foot grain bin slide. I might be 27 years old but I will never turn down an opportunity to slide! Overall I had a great time hanging out with my friend and enjoying a hidden gem that North Carolina has to offer. I can’t wait until Fall hits so this year I can hopefully enjoy Aw Shuck’s pumpkin picking and corn maze! You can see more about Burger Fest for 2022 and the past event here.
