MoveStudio Charlotte: My Hip-Hop Class Review

Since I’m always looking for a way to stay active in the Queen City, I stumbled upon MoveStudio Charlotte and took my first Pilates class which you can read about here. I loved it! So, I went back another two times and took a Hip-Hop class.

About MoveStudio Charlotte

MoveStudio Charlotte seeks to promote the joy of movement through high-quality instruction, community classes, and special events. The owner April opened up the studio originally to teach her two younger children (who are a delight by the way) and then it grew into teaching both youth and adult students. MoveStudio Charlotte provides a safe space for all dancers, fitness instructors, students, and artists to hone their craft. Some classes they offer include hip-hop, ballet, acro, pilates, creative movement, and jazz to name a few.

The Lex Paige Review

Thanks to MoveStudio Charlotte, I was able to try out a class to review for all of you. This time around, I tried out an adult hip-hop class. My hip-hop class was held in one of the two rooms the studio currently has and included myself with a few other students. The first week I attended class there were around ten students in the class and the second week there were four. With such a difference in numbers, I would say that it’s important to not feel intimidated about the size of the class. Big or small, make the most out of your workout and enjoy it.

During the class, we used learned a medium-level hip-hop routine and completed the choreography by week two. I really enjoyed the vibe during the class and how comfortable the hip-hop teacher made me feel. She was very encouraging inputting your own style on the movements and not taking everything so seriously. I mean dance is all about freeing ourselves right?

Overall, the two Hip-Hop classes I took at MoveStudio Charlotte were a lot of fun. The first class was a little slow for me (because I am advanced) but in the second class, we really dove into the hip-hop choreography and got to moving! If you are new to hip-hop, I would 100% recommend signing up for the beginner class at 7 pm. If you feel confident in your dance skills, the advanced hip-hop class is at 8 pm.

MoveStudio Charlotte is a perfect place to get your body moving, meet new people, and most importantly have fun. Currently, the studio is located on Hawthorne Lane but will be moving soon to a new location off Monroe Road come June. You can find out more on how to register for classes, pricing, and Summer camp programs here!

With Love,

Lex Paige
