This past Friday was a day filled with philanthropy, celebrities, kick balls, 93-degree heat and good old fun. That’s right people, it was the second annual Kickin’ it with Cam Newton Celebrity Kickball Tournament and I got to be a part of it!
On Friday, June 10th, myself along with some co-workers participated in the 2nd annual tournament at Memorial Stadium. Open to the general public, this event featured Cam Newton and some of his teammates and other celebrity friends competing against businesses and community leaders from across the area for the chance to be crowned the Queen City kickball champions. Pretty cool right? Well, what’s even better is this event helped raise money for kids in need across the Charlotte area.
So how did our team do? Well, before the event started all the celebrities were distributed in two’s to each team involved in the tournament. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit star struck by some of the celebrities that showed up for the event, including former Carolina cornerback Josh Norman, Panther’s star Greg Olsen, former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow, Major League Baseball star Gary Sheffield and the one and only NBA star John Wall. To say the least, it was pretty surreal. Our team had the one and only Charlotte Hornets player Cody Zeller and Panther’s Player Bené Benwikere helping us to secure the win. So, we did some warming up got some Gatorade and were ready to kill it on the kickball field.

Unfortunately, I think the heat may have gotten to us because we only played one game…and lost terribly. I was, however, the only one from our team to make it to second base during the game. (Pretty proud)My coworkers and I were able to let go for a while, bond and I mean personally even though I love the feeling of winning a good competition, I can now officially say I played on the same field as Cam Newton and other amazing athletes and frankly that is good enough for me.
