Love fly fishing? Us too. So, if you’re looking for a weekend packed with fresh mountain air, small-town charm, and a community that actually gets your obsession with casting, the Maggie Valley Fly Fishing & Outdoor Festival should be on your 2026 radar. I’ll be there, and let me just say, this is the kind of Memorial Day weekend plans you’ll want to block off, plan for, and brag about later. Here’s a little sneak peek at why you won’t want to miss it.
2026 Festival Dates and Details
The Maggie Valley Fly Fishing Festival runs May 22–23, 2026, at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds in North Carolina. This two-day event is packed with hands-on experiences, delicious food, top-notch vendors, and basically everything a fly fisher could dream of. It’s the perfect way to soak in the beauty of Western North Carolina, connect with fellow anglers, learn a few new tricks, and celebrate the simple joy of casting a line in one of the most scenic spots in the Smokies. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just dipping your toes in, this festival makes for an unforgettable weekend.
What to Expect
I may be a little biased, but last year my fiancé and I went on a half-day guided fishing trip with the team at the Maggie Valley Fly Fishing Shop, and we had an absolute blast. The shop is incredible! They provide all the gear, share expert tips, and make sure you’re set up for success. Our guide, Joe, took us to some stunning fishing spots (I’m keeping those locations a secret…you’ll have to ask the shop when you go!) where we landed several wild rainbow trout.
So, when I heard about the Maggie Valley Fly Fishing Festival, I knew I had to mark it on my calendar. What I love most about this festival is that it’s not just about fishing; it’s about slowing down, enjoying the outdoors, and connecting with people who genuinely care about fly fishing. Over the course of the weekend, you’ll find:
- Fly casting/fly making clinics and workshops that are approachable for beginners but still valuable for seasoned anglers
- Vendors showcasing the latest fly fishing gear, outdoor products, art, and local brands (sneak-preview of some below)
- Casting competitions and gear drawings
- Food vendors and a relaxed mountain atmosphere
- Family-friendly activities make it a great outing for all ages
Fly Fisherman Magazine at the festival will be there this year, too! Overall, this is the kind of event where you can learn something new, meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts, and still have plenty of time to soak in the scenery. The best part, you can enjoy it all without feeling rushed. Honestly, it’s the perfect way to combine adventure, relaxation, and a little bit of friendly competition.
Places to Stay
The mountains are truly the best place to relax and reconnect. When it comes to lodging, Bear Run Log Cabins is my go-to recommendation for this trip. If you’re visiting Maggie Valley, staying in a log cabin just feels right, and these cabins strike the perfect balance between cozy and convenient. They’re tucked into a peaceful mountain setting, which makes it easy to unwind after a full festival day, but still close enough that you’re not spending your weekend driving back and forth. If you’re planning to go, I recommend booking early. You can click here to book your stay at Bear Run Log Cabins here. I also recommend checking out Dogwood Boutique Motel. This is a great combination of luxury and mountain life. You can also find additional lodging recommendation is Maggie Valley here.
My Favorite Spots to Eat Before Heading to the Festival
Festival days start early, and Joey’s Pancake House is the perfect place to fuel up beforehand. This is a Maggie Valley local staple for a reason. They have classic breakfast food, generous portions, and a welcoming local feel. If breakfast is part of your routine (it is for me), you’ll want to stop here first. You can check out Joey’s Pancake House menu and hours here. Another favorite is Organic Beans Coffee Co. You can go inside or through their drive-thru, and it is my recommendation if you want something better than a quick grab-and-go cup. The coffee is excellent, the vibe is relaxed, and it’s a great stop before making your way to the festival grounds. You can learn more about Organic Beans Coffee Co here.
@maggievalleyflysh Every year we have the same artist create our logo for that specific year’s festival. Final Thoughts
The Fly Fishing Festival continues to grow each year, but it still keeps that small-town, community-driven feel that makes it special.
