Buying A $1 Float And Going River Tubing in North Carolina

Buying A $1 Float And Going River Tubing in North Carolina

I had this bright idea a few weeks ago that I wanted to go back in time to a fond childhood memory and go river tubing again. I remember when I was in Summer camp and having so much fun letting the natural rapids take us downstream. It was adventure-packed and so refreshing.

So, I did the only logical thing and went searching for a tube that I could take on my water adventure. I didn’t want to spend a lot, so I figured the dollar store was the best place to go. I splurged and purchased two, in case one popped, and I was ready to go. After weeks of waiting because of our rather rainy weather, I finally got the opportunity to go river tubing and chose Wilson Creek located in the Pisgah National Forest as my river race track. Wilson Creek is truly a scenic river located in the Pisgah National Forest. If you love fly fishing, this is your spot. This is a 49,000 acres area of wilderness where you can enjoy kayaking, hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, and more. If you love being in the outdoors, this creek will allow you to wander to the fullest. Well, let me just say, I ended up doing more falling than floating.

Let me just show you in photos.

Overall, I recommend buying a tube that isn’t $1. I think I kept felling out for the following reasons:

  1. My butt couldn’t fit in the tube
  2. I’m now pretty sure I purchased a child’s tube
  3. I blew the tube up with my mouth and it kept deflating

And actually, it didn’t turn out as bad as I originally thought it would. BUT…the statement you get what you pay for truly shows itself in this experience. I have since purchased a ready…$5 tube from Walmart, that is made for river-tubing. I will be taking a shot at concurring the river yet again this weekend and I am pumped. You can see more about exploring Wilson Creek and create your adventure here.

With Love,
