A three-day holiday weekend full of fireworks, laughs, masks, and this time a trip adventure to a historic park. To escape from the hardship of a workweek and COVID-19 talk, my significant other and I decided to take an afternoon adventure to Historic Yates Mill County Park. This park is a 174-acre wildlife refuge and an environmental research center located at 4620 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s a very clean park that is a great way to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Fun fact: the Mill, which you can see below, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and was restored to working order through a grassroots community effort by 2005.

When we arrived, the weather was overcast. We decided to walk the Yates Mill Pond Trail, which is a 0.8-mile moderately trafficked loop trail. The park was peaceful and quiet…then the rain came! Yes, we did get trapped under the bridge for a good hour as the rain poured down. It was quite nice, and the rain brought with it some good fishing! We saw a good six snakes, caught a bunch of fish that swam upstream, and overall had a great Sunday afternoon away from all the madness. I recommend checking out this historic park if you are ever in the area. You can see more information on the park’s hours and programs here.
With Love,
