A Day of Hiking at Harper Creek Falls in North Carolina

Sundays are for day trips and adventures. This past week Ethan and I decided to spend the day hiking in Pisgah National Forest. I am an avid hiker, but I admit I have been slacking.

In April of 2020, weeks before the park was actually shut down due to the pandemic, I took a drive to Wilson Creek to hike Harper Creek Falls. (You can see that adventure here.) Like my first trip, we parked in a further lot to get a warm-up before our 5-mile hike. We started with a half-mile walk and then headed up the mountain to Harper Creek Falls.

When we arrived at the falls, there were now two ropes you could climb to get to the falls base. It had recently rained so it was a little slippery but just be careful. Once we got down to the bottom, we enjoyed the fresh waterfall breeze and some snacks. Climbing back up was actually easier this time but it was definitely a hotter day than my last visit so we were sweating! You can find directions HERE on how to get to the waterfall.

After taking some fun photos with my new Carolina Brewery gear (see the blog here) we decided to hike back down the mountain and pull off to a spot on Wilson Creek to fly fish. There were a few wild trout in pools, but sadly we didn’t end up catching any. Overall we had a great time during our day trip adventure. Though I did have a little slip on a rock while Ethan was fly fishing (reminder always be careful and have four contact points), I loved being out in the sunshine and nature.

With Love,

Lex Paige
