Finding the right skincare products can be tough. There are so many options out there, and not all of them are actually good for your skin. That’s why I always get excited when I discover brands that are thoughtful, natural, and locally made. If you need a refresher, Homemade by Hanna is a small-batch skincare line created right from the comfort of the founder’s home.
The brand first launched in April 2015 and quickly became known for its handmade scrubs, powders, serums, and seasonal skincare products. What started as a hobby has grown into something much bigger. I actually first reviewed Homemade by Hanna nearly a decade ago, which honestly feels a little wild to say out loud. Seeing how the brand has grown over the years has been so fun, and it’s still one of those companies I genuinely love supporting.

About Homemade by Hanna
Homemade by Hanna focuses on creating small-batch goods using ingredients that are genuinely good for your skin. Everything is carefully measured, mixed, labeled, and packaged by hand, always with skin health in mind. The products are made with nourishing ingredients like Vitamin E oil, aloe, crambe oil, sweet almond oil, and 100% pure essential oils. These ingredients help create hydrating creams, restorative serums, and chemical-free fragrances that you can feel good about using every day. Originally founded in North Carolina, the brand moved to South Carolina in 2021, where the products are still made today in small batches. The mission hasn’t changed, though. It’s all about creating natural skincare that hydrates, nourishes, and supports healthy skin without unnecessary additives.
There are as many hobbies in the world as there are people, but every once in a while, someone turns a passion project into something really special. Johanna Lovvorn is one of those people. As the owner and creative force behind Homemade by Hanna, Johanna has built a brand centered around care, creativity, and natural ingredients. She was kind enough to share some of her products with me again so I could test them out and share my thoughts. The samples I tried were perfect for about two to three uses, which made them great for experimenting with different scents and formulas before committing to a full-size product.
The Products
First up were the cremes. I tested Peppermint, Citrus Cocoa Butter, and White Ginger. These come in either two-ounce bottles or four-ounce jars and are designed to deeply hydrate the skin without feeling heavy. One thing I noticed right away is that they’re not greasy at all, which is always a win in my book. Within about ten to fifteen minutes, they fully absorb into your skin and leave it feeling soft and moisturized. I also loved that the sample size easily fit right in my purse. They’re perfect for travel or just keeping with you throughout the day when your skin needs a little extra hydration.

Next, I tried some of the serums, which are some of the brand’s most popular products. The Cuticle Serum is a fan favorite and for good reason. It’s incredibly nourishing and can also double as an after-shave oil, which makes it really versatile. I also tested the Face and Neck Serum. Just five to seven drops mixed into your daily moisturizer or sunscreen can help support hydration and give your skin a more youthful, dewy appearance. It feels lightweight but incredibly moisturizing, and I can see why it’s one of their top sellers. I was also able to try the Under-Eye Serum. All you need is a tiny drop gently applied under the eyes using your fingertip. With regular use, it can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and puffiness while keeping the delicate skin under your eyes hydrated.

More Products
Of course, I couldn’t resist trying the fragrance oils since they’re such a distinctive part of the Homemade by Hanna collection. I tested Peppermint Twist, Sunny Citrus, Vanilla Frost, and Vintage Bohemian, and each scent had its own personality. Peppermint Twist quickly became my favorite. It’s a refreshing, spa-like blend of peppermint, rosemary, and lavender that feels both energizing and calming. Sunny Citrus truly lives up to its name. It smells like sunshine in a bottle, with bright citrus and grassy notes that create an uplifting aroma. It can even double as a natural insect repellent.
Vanilla Frost feels warm and nostalgic, with a sweet scent that reminds me of roasting marshmallows by a campfire. Vintage Bohemian leans deeper and more earthy, blending palo santo and patchouli for a grounded, slightly mystical fragrance. What I love most about these oils is how easy they are to use. Instead of spraying perfume, you simply roll a small amount onto your wrists or pulse points. The scent feels softer and more personal, staying close to the skin rather than filling the entire room. The compact roller bottles are another bonus. They’re small enough to slip into a purse or travel bag, which makes them much easier to carry than bulky perfume bottles.

The Natural Sanitizer is alcohol-free and enriched with Vitamin E, so it doesn’t leave your hands feeling dry like many traditional sanitizers. It smells wonderful and feels much gentler on the skin. I also tested the Skinny Soap in the Mocha scent. It genuinely smells like a mocha latte and feels incredibly moisturizing thanks to the shea butter and essential oils. The half-bar size is perfect for travel or guest bathrooms. It’s also available in citrus and lavender scents.

The Lex Paige Reaction
Testing out Homemade by Hanna’s products was such a treat. Each scent felt unique and thoughtfully crafted. You can truly tell how much care goes into every product. The packaging is just as charming. Each fragrance oil comes in a small glass roller bottle that feels simple yet elegant. They’re perfectly sized for travel and take up almost no space in your bag.
My personal favorite is still the Hippie-Dippy Fragrance Oil with its soft, sweet almond scent. That said, every scent I tried was beautiful in its own way. Another great surprise is the price point. Most products range from about $6 to $30, which feels incredibly reasonable for handmade skincare. It’s no secret that I love supporting small businesses—especially ones like Homemade by Hanna that put so much heart into what they create. If you enjoy natural skincare, supporting local makers, or discovering unique handmade products, this brand is definitely worth exploring.
You can shop their products online. Orders over $75 ship free, and the brand ships anywhere in the United States in about four days, which is impressive for handmade items. They also offer customizable gift sets, making them perfect for holidays, birthdays, or thoughtful self-care gifts. Fun fact: Homemade by Hanna was even featured in the Axios Charlotte Christmas Gift Guide in 2025, a well-deserved recognition for such a special small business. Once you try these products, I think you’ll understand why I’ve been such a longtime fan. And if you do place an order, don’t forget to mention who introduced you to your new favorite natural skincare brand.
With Love,
Lex Paige
