Exploring North Carolina: Rocky Face Mountain

Exploring North Carolina: Rocky Face Mountain

Recently my father came to visit me here in North Carolina again and we decided to spend the day taking a hike. Since we didn’t want to drive too far (we did a ton of driving the day before) we decided to try out a new hiking spot a friend suggested to me called Rocky Face Mountain.

So I packed us a lunch and we drove from Charlotte around an hour and a ten-minute drive to Rocky Face Mountain. It wasn’t a bad trip, since you pretty much take I-77 most of the way. The park is located in the Hiddenite Mountains and features numerous hiking trails that are easy to navigate. My father and I chose to do the Blue to the Orange trail which you can see here. When looking at the map, we went the counterclockwise way so it was up then down using the Verticle Mile Challenge.

Starting off the hike, it wasn’t that bad. My dad runs regularly and you know me, I hike all the time, but I will admit once we hit the incline up the mountain, it was a little strenuous. The summit is 600 feet above the surrounding terrain and the view is memorable. It had rained pretty hard the day before too, so when we hiked there was a great amount of runoff which was pretty to see. You can check out some photos from our hike below.

Overall, we had a great time exploring this local recreational park in North Carolina. This is a perfect afternoon day trip for any outdoor enthusiast to enjoy. Currently, the park is open seven days a week from 8 am until 8 pm. You can see more on things to do at the park here and be sure to stay safe friends and continue to practice safe social distancing!

With Love,

Lex Paige
