Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?

Why Do Bad Things Happen To Good People?

I have found that recently I have asked this question more and more and more.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Now, this is possibly the most difficult question to answer in all of the theology, but I ask this question because I genuinely do not understand. Which in return makes me question the universe, which I don’t like to do because then my mind runs for hours and hours trying to solve something I know simply no one can. And then the rest of my day well becomes less than ideal.

God, I am so sick of death, illness, and accidents happening to good/innocent people. This seems to be happening around and to me more often, which is why I keep analyzing this question: Why do bad things happen to good people?  I lost my youngest brother to illness, I lost my mom to cancer, lost a friend from high school to an accident, lost a friend in college, and the list goes on and on. But come on, they were all good people…so what the heck is going on?

Personally, and I’ve discussed this before in earlier posts, I think the most disgusting and most gut-wrenching example of why I do not understand why bad things happen to good people is the death of a child. I can’t and will never be able to make sense of why God would allow the bad to exist to a child; someone who never even got a chance.  It seems that every day some awful shit is happening to someone just starting off their journey in life and then: oh plot twist, stuff gets messed up because apparently we are supposed to all learn what it feels like to suffer. BS.  When asking this question, I turned to the Bible for guidance, this is what I found: “There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.” -Romans 3:1 Apparently, the biblical answer is there are no “good” people existing in this world. So I guess we’re all kinda just shit out of luck. Sweet. I guess until I die, which hopefully won’t be for a while, I will continue to be bothered by the fact that people suffer undeservedly, and I will continue to search for an answer. Until then, this question remains an unsolved mystery.

With Love,

Lex Paige
