Stairways: A True Story of Love, Life, and Death

Stairways: A True Story of Love, Life, and Death

I figured it was about time I shared on my blog about my father’s book. Not only because he’s my dad, and the story is about him and my mother, but because despite the fact I am related to the author and the protagonists of the book, it is a truly inspiring, loving, and beautifully written book.

Stairways is a book that tells the true love story of the author, Steven Zarycki, and his wife, Lori; or as I know them, my parents. It describes in detail how two young individuals found each other at an early age and loved each other instantaneously. Stairways is also a book about a loving husband’s continuous struggle as the primary caregiver for his wife, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer in June of 2012. Stairways is an emotional, passionate journey of life, love, and death in the lives of my parents; and it’s amazing.

As you may or may not know, in February of 2015 my mother passed away from stage four stomach cancer; and it forever changed our lives. However, as I have discussed in previous postings in my Me, Myself & Mom Blog Category, our family decided to take this disaster into our lives and aim for a positive outlook. For my father, he decided to challenge his many emotions, thoughts, and everything else he was going through into writing. And…as the months went on, so did my father’s writing. And come August of 2015, he had finished completing his first book.

Here is a sneak peek of an excerpt from the book:

There’s one little poem Lori wrote to me on that same letter that I want to share with you. She called it “Forevermore”: “You are that special someone in my life. You hold all the keys to my future. Only you unlock my love, so deeply buried inside my soul. You’re the one to turn my life from nothing into whole. Breathlessly, I wait for you as you walked the other way, to turn around and come to me and tell me you will stay. Forevermore, please be with me, from darkness into dawn, as a mother deer holds tightly near to her newborn baby fawn. You will be that special one, till my life exceeds to live, and myself to you, I’ll always live to give you all to give.
