Macaroni for Mom

Macaroni for Mom

So today is Mother’s Day.

As many of you know my mother is no longer physically here on Earth: which in return makes today a rather difficult one. However, with the love and support of my father Steve, my brother Chris, my mother’s parents aka grandma & grandpa, and the rest of my family and friends…the difficult day turned out…well better.

You know Mother’s Day is actually a really important holiday if you want to call it that, to celebrate. It’s that one day out of 365 a year that we as individuals get to spoil and smother in love the woman that have given each and every one of us live. Pretty intense right? Now, I’m not dumbing down any of the love and appreciation for you dads out there, you guys have your days too, but really without mothers, we wouldn’t be around. So despite the fact my mother is no longer here to give me hell for forgetting Mother’s Day (which my mother and I did once and we made it up big time don’t you worry) or that she isn’t here to hug me, kiss me, or even say, “Mama loves you Peanut…”

That’s okay. Because my father and I enjoyed the day and did a little something special to remind not only her that we will always love, care, and worship her…but to also remind ourselves that she loves us and always will.

So I present to you this: Macaroni for Mom

Now, I have to give you a little backstory in order for you all to get the concept. Last year, 2014 Mother’s Day, I was living in my best friend’s apartment for three days after I had to move out of my on-campus housing. As I was there, my mother texted me this on Thursday night which at the time I found humorous and happened to save.

Three days later my parents arrived to help me move all my stuff back home to Jersey and wouldn’t you know it, the day was Mother’s Day. Oddly enough, this always kind of happened to mom. Every year it was either myself or Chris that ended school during this time, so the old tradition of going to Hersey Park (which was the best tradition ever may I add) sort of stopped. Anyway, it was around 2 am in the morning when we were moving my stuff and guess what comes out my mother’s mouth…”Where’s my macaroni necklace?” Seriously?!?!?

I honestly thought she was kidding. Which she sort of was, but I still felt bad I didn’t make it. I mean she still loved the sentimental card, earrings and bracelets I got the her…but man I forgot the macaroni. Which brings me to today. After breakfast at the hotel, my father and I went back to my apartment to create what I personally think are works of art, three macaroni necklaces for mom. And honestly, it was really nice. I made one from me, and then one from Chris…and then of course dad strung those dried noodles on a string all by himself. ( I got my dad to make arts & crafts…awesome I know) After we were done, I wrote a little message on mine and signed each one with love from all of us: because that’s what Mother’s Day is all about, LOVE. I then drove my father to the airport with noodle necklaces and all, kissed him goodbye (tears too) and knew that today, even though difficult, would be okay with my mother’s light shining through.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom, I love you.

Love Always,

Peanut.

P.S. (My necklace is the best)
